Scope and manuscript types
Submit original work relevant to English language teaching and Applied Linguistics. Research papers, theoretically grounded discussions, evaluated classroom practices and reviews should fit the journal’s scope and sections. A manuscript must not be under consideration at another journal. Disclose related papers and any earlier public version.
One active submission per corresponding author
A corresponding author may have only one active manuscript with the journal at a time. This includes a manuscript being screened, reviewed or revised, and an accepted manuscript awaiting publication. A new submission is permitted after the previous manuscript is published, rejected or withdrawn. The restriction applies to the corresponding author, not to participation as a coauthor on another manuscript.
Prepare two files
- Separate title page: article title; each author’s name, institution and country; corresponding author’s working email; author contributions; funding and conflicts of interest. ORCID identifiers are encouraged. Include a brief author biography.
- Anonymised manuscript: remove names, affiliations, acknowledgements and identifying file metadata. Cite your own work neutrally. Supply identifying ethics or repository details separately if their disclosure would defeat anonymisation.
Language and presentation
Manuscripts may be written in English or Spanish. Include an English title, abstract and keywords; Spanish manuscripts should also include these elements in Spanish. Keep each abstract within 150 words and describe the purpose, method or approach, main findings and contribution.
Use an editable document, clear headings and consistent author–date citations. List all cited sources in the references and include source DOIs where available. Explain abbreviations, number tables and figures, and provide informative captions. Supply permission details for third-party material. Supplementary files should be labelled and referenced in the manuscript.
Required declarations
Explain research ethics approval or why it was not required, consent arrangements where relevant, funding, conflicts, author contributions and data availability. Describe any generative-AI use covered by the AI policy. Consult Research Ethics and Data and Authorship and Conflicts of Interest.
Review, fees and publication
Research papers undergo double-blind review by at least two independent reviewers. No acceptance or turnaround time is guaranteed. There are no submission or publication fees. Authors retain copyright and published relaunch articles use CC BY 4.0.
